Toyota Prius: How to Release/Open Fuel Door

How do you open the fuel door in a Toyota Prius? If you own or have leased one and don’t know how to open the fuel door, this post will teach you how to do it.

2016 – 2023 Models

1. Press the fuel tank release button on the left side of the dashboard. The button has a fueling symbol printed on top.
2. The fuel door will pop open.
3. Turn the gas cap in the counterclockwise direction to open it.
4. Hook the gas cap in place to fuel the car.

Alternatively, you can use the following steps when the release button fails to open the fuel door:

1. Open the trunk.
2. Locate a cover underneath the luggage compartment light.
3. Remove this cover to expose a lever.
4. Pull the lever to open the fuel door.

2001 – 2015 Models
