Toyota RAV4: Reset Tire Pressure System

You can reset or initialize the tire pressure warning system (TPWS) on the Toyota RAV4. Doing so registers the current tire pressure as a normal measurement for the system. Here’s how it’s done.

Note: All models need the tires properly inflated to the recommended pressure.

2012-2023 Models

1. Adjust the tire pressure to the recommended cold tire pressure PSI as indicated on the chart label located on the driver’s side door panel.
2. Turn the ignition on. For push-button models, press the “Engine Start/Stop” button two times without holding the brake.
3. Use the ◄► buttons to navigate to the “⚙️ Gear” icon on the info display.
4. Use the ▲▼ buttons to toggle to “Vehicle Settings,” then press and hold “OK / Enter” until another menu appears.
5. “TPWS” should already be highlighted. Press and hold “OK / Enter” again until another menu appears.
6. “Set Pressure” should already be highlighted. Press and hold “OK / Enter” again until another menu appears.
7. The tire pressure warning light will flash in the instrument panel three times, and the reset is complete.
8. Drive the vehicle above 12 mph for at least 10 minutes to allow the system to calibrate.

2005 – 2011 Models

1. Adjust the tire pressure to the recommended cold tire pressure PSI as indicated on the chart label located on the driver’s side door panel.
2. With the vehicle parked, switch the ignition to “LOCK” or “OFF.” For push-button models, press the “Engine Start/Stop” button two times without holding the brake.
3. Locate the tire pressure reset switch located in one of the following places depending on the model and year:
   • Below the steering wheel (way up under the dash)
   • On instrument panel
   • On knee bolster
   • Inside glove box

     

4. Press and hold the switch until the tire pressure light flashes 3 times.
5. Wait for about 3 minutes, then turn the ignition to “LOCK” or “OFF.”
6. Once the tire pressure warning light turns off, you have successfully reset the TPMS.

2000 – 2004 Models

1. Turn the ignition switch to the “ON” position, but do not start the engine.
2. Press and hold the tire pressure warning reset button (located under the steering wheel) until the tire pressure warning light blinks slowly three times.
3. Release the reset button.
4. Drive the vehicle at a speed of 30+ mph for at least several minutes to activate the TPMS.

1994 – 1999 Models

The 1994-1999 Toyota RAV4 does not have a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) installed. Therefore, it does not require a reset procedure for the TPMS.

Note: If you are experiencing problems where the tire pressure warning light is lit when it shouldn’t be, be sure to check the pressure in all 5 tires. That includes the spare!

If you performed the steps correctly, you have initialized the tire pressure system on your RAV4.
